Who is responsible
The controller of the personal data described on this page, within the meaning of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is the operator of AlertsEU:
The name and postal address of the operator are not published yet.

What every request reveals
Like any website, the server receives your IP address and browser identification with each request. The site is delivered through Cloudflare (content delivery network), which processes these technical data to route traffic and stop abuse. On our own server the IP address is used only in memory — to limit the rate of requests to the notification and feedback endpoints — and is not written to disk; we keep no access logs with IP addresses.
On your first visit the application asks Cloudflare, at the same site address, which country your connection comes from, so that the map can open on that country. No location permission is requested and no coordinates are involved; the answer is used in your browser only and is not sent to our server. You can dismiss the suggestion, and it is not repeated.
Usage statistics
To understand which parts of the service are used, the application counts interface events on our own server (“first-party” analytics). No third party is involved and nothing is stored on your device for this.
- What is recorded
-
The name of an event (page opened, zone or country selected, language changed, event card or screen opened,
notification dialog result, an error in the application) with a few fixed-value properties — an event type,
a country code, a bucketed load time. With it: interface language, selected zone, device class (mobile,
tablet, desktop), browser family, the visitor's country as determined by the content delivery network, the
application build. For the first page view also the host name of the referring site and the campaign tags
(
utm_source,utm_medium,utm_campaign) if the link carried them; the tags are then removed from the address bar. - What is never recorded
- IP address, the full browser identification string, full page or referrer addresses, coordinates, anything you type, the address of a push subscription, and any identifier that would recognise you on a later visit. A random number that orders events inside one page load lives only in memory and disappears when the page is closed.
- Retention
- Raw event files are kept for up to 180 days and then deleted. Daily totals (counts without any per-visit detail) may be kept longer.
- Opting out
- Turn on “Global Privacy Control” or “Do Not Track” in your browser: the application then sends no usage events at all. Blocking the request in a content blocker has the same effect and does not break the map.
Analytics enabled on this site right now: firstparty.
(firstparty — the counter described above; off — nothing is collected. If an
additional cookieless provider is ever switched on, its name appears here:
cloudflare — Cloudflare Web Analytics, page views and loading-speed measurements;
plausible, umami, goatcounter — cookieless page-view counters.)
Push notifications
Notifications are off until you enable them in the “Push notifications” dialog of the application.
- What is stored
- The push subscription issued by your browser — an address at the browser vendor's push service and two encryption keys — together with the countries you selected, the interface language and the time of subscription. No name, e-mail address or account is attached to it, and the IP address of the request is not stored. The record is used to deliver notifications and for nothing else.
- Who delivers
- The push service of your browser vendor (Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft): the server hands it an encrypted message for your subscription address.
- How long it is kept
- A subscription has no expiry date: it stays until you unsubscribe or until it stops working. When the push service answers that a subscription no longer exists or is no longer accepted — the browser was removed, the permission was revoked, the site data was cleared — the server deletes the record right after that delivery attempt.
- How to unsubscribe
- Open the “Push notifications” dialog and press “Disable”: the browser cancels the subscription and the server deletes its record at once. Revoking the notification permission for the site in the browser settings has the same result with a delay — the record is removed after the next notification fails to be delivered.
What is kept in your browser
Your interface settings are saved in the browser's local storage so the map opens the way you left it: language, theme, zone and country filter, enabled map layers, the “Live” switch, the countries chosen for notifications and whether the first-visit country suggestion was dismissed. If the application's service worker is installed (it is needed for notifications and for the home-screen app), it also keeps a copy of the application and of the last received data for offline use. None of this is sent anywhere; clearing site data in the browser removes it.
Third parties
- Cloudflare — content delivery and protection for every request to the site. Cloudflare, Inc. is a company based in the United States and processes the technical data of requests on the operator's behalf.
- Browser push services — only if you enabled notifications (see above).
Nothing else is loaded from other companies' servers: the application's scripts, styles, map and typeface (Fira Sans) are served from the site's own address. Links to original sources in event cards lead to other sites with their own privacy rules.
Reports and e-mail
When you choose “Report a problem” on an event's card, the application sends which event it is and the one reason you picked from a fixed list — there is no free-text field, and nothing about you is attached. Until you close the tab, the browser remembers which events you have already reported, so that a second click sends nothing. If you write to us by e-mail, we see what you send and use it only to answer and to fix the problem.
Legal basis and your rights
Delivering the site, protecting it against abuse and counting anonymous usage events rest on the operator's legitimate interest in running a reliable service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Push notifications rest on your consent (Article 6(1)(a)): you give it by enabling them and withdraw it at any time by disabling them.
You may ask the operator for access to the personal data relating to you, for its correction or erasure, for the restriction of its processing, and you may object to processing; you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data-protection authority of your country. Please note what the service is able to find: it keeps no accounts and no visitor identifiers, so the only record that belongs to a particular browser is a push subscription — and you delete it yourself by disabling notifications.
